The Negative Effect of Plastic on Marine Creatures: Life underwater

Have you ever wondered watching plastic bottles while diving instead of coral reefs?

An estimation in the world of oceans that over 8 million tons of plastic are entering our oceans each year, and it is predicted that by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean. The increasing production and use of plastic has led to a significant threat to the species living in marine and river environments. Plastic debris has been found in every ocean and river in the world.

                                                       Underwater creatures' health

Marine creatures such as birds, fish, turtles, seals, and whales, often mistake plastic debris for food. It can then cause devastating health problems or even death. Plastic debris can also entangle marine creatures, leading to drowning, choking, or injuries. Furthermore, plastic waste can damage the habitats and ecosystems in which marine creatures rely upon for their survival.

Nile river and plastic

The Nile river, one of the longest rivers in the world has been affected by the use of plastic as well. Plastic waste has negative consequences on human health, agriculture, and the economy. In addition, plastic is known to cause serious harm to Nile wildlife, which can lead to the extinction of certain species. Marine debris, including plastic, is affecting species across the globe, including the Nile river, which is an essential source of freshwater for many countries, including Egypt.

What to do?!

It is important to take action, to limit the amount of plastic waste that enters our marine and river environments. The use of reusable bags, bottles, and containers can help reduce the amount of plastic that is produced and then discarded. Governments and industries must also take responsibility and actively fund research into the impact of plastic on both humans and the environment.

Ultimately, we need to recognize that our actions have a lasting impact on the planet and all its inhabitants. By taking small steps to reduce our plastic usage, we can make a huge difference. We will never feel the danger, unless we live in it.
